Wines to Uncover

By Mégane Leeding (alumni) in Blog

With over 400 wines on show, we are excited to introduce to our customers over 170 new wines, some much-needed staples and an increasing number of vegan and sustainably produced delights. With the theme ‘Down to Earth’ running through our offering this year, the Torre Mora range from Mount Etna and the organic and vegan wines from Casa Rojo in the new Musso range really show what respectful wine production is capable of. You can expect to find interesting wines from a number of countries, styles and price points.

Discover lighter styles

More so now than ever, lighter styles of wine are in demand and we are highlighting that this style has so much more to offer than just Pinot Grigio and Gamay. Look out for the wonderfully interesting Vallisto Criolla from Argentina or the Beres dry Furmint from Hungary which is light but bursting with delicate minerality and fruit. Vinho Verde has made a come-back recently and our Quinta das Arcas range is light in alcohol with a crisp spritz on the tongue and growing in popularity massively.

Building your range with sustainable organic wine

Once considered a niche market, organic wines consumption has risen from 3.36 million 9 litre cases to 5.72 million in just 5 years, that’s a 70% surge in consumption. Veramonte a long term favourite with Matthew Clark customers, after many years of organic practices are now certified and the first of the wines coming through are their ever popular Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah Rose.

Selling more Homegrown wines

English wines on-trade sales have almost reached £1 billion. English sparkling wine, ideal for bridging the gap between more affordable sparkling wine varieties and champagne, can also stretch spend on sparkling on the back of the nation’s love for locally-produced wine. Discover how to create a producer-focused range that champions local business and engages customers with a rich background of the product to drive a sale.

Be sure to try Greyfriars Classic Cuvée Brut, its exceptional value and their Blanc de Blanc from the south facing chalk slopes of the Hogs Back in Surrey is incredible – no surprise it won Gold in the Decanter World Wine Awards. The award-winning Camel Valley Pinot Noir Rosé from near Bodmin in Cornwall is English rosé at its best.
