What is it?

The WSET Level 3 Award is a comprehensive course, taking students on a tour of the world of wines region by region, and provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and winemaking. Think of it like an A level in wine, spread over 8 weeks, it’s not an undertaking for the faint-hearted. The course builds on the tasting technique developed in Level 2 and enables students to apply the knowledge gained.

Who's it for?

Level 3 is a sizeable leap in content and difficulty from Level 2 and students must have passed Level 2 before attempting Level 3. Find out more about WSET Level 2.

Course structure

At Level 3 we invite guest tutors to supplement our teaching and to bring topics to life. Classroom teaching and tasting must be accompanied by self-study, and is supported by a series of online resources. Level 3 is taught over eight non-consecutive days (for example every Thursday for eight weeks) with the exam on the final day. The 2¼ hour exam comprises a multiple choice paper of 50 questions, a written paper of five questions and a tasting paper.

Your study time

It is very important that you allocate time for self-study over the weeks that you are attending the course (minimum 56 hours outside of classes). Once you have registered for a course, you can request your pack in advance to familiarise yourself with the text book before starting.
