Riesling, a versatile, aromatic grape variety that can be expected to have good acidity, often residual sugar and light in alcohol. It can be made dry or very sweet. Key characteristics are lime and petroleum on the nose, followed by orange, apple, blossom, passion fruit and honey on the palate.

Soellner wine is fermented on “wild yeast”, derived from their vineyards. For the last 100 years, the family have been cultivating vineyards on 16 hectares in the vicinity of Goesing, a village sheltered amidst soft hills and slopes in the Wagram region where the special microclimate and deep loess, clay and gravel soils are perfect for well-balanced, fresh and mineral wines. It is now over 20 years since they switched to organic viticulture and biodynamic preparations.

Grüner Veltliner is the grape to look out for here, making food-friendly, zesty whites in the cooler north-east. The red Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch grapes grown further east produce juicy, light to medium-bodied red wines.
