Santa Rita Pewen, Maipo
From a small plot of vines dating back to 1938, this the icon Carmenere for Santa Rita. The vineyards are dry farmed, which is unusal in Chile, using only winter rainfall to water the granite soils. The wine is aged in French Oak barrels for 18 months, 40% in new, and 60% in second use. A complex nose of black fruit, with delicate spice notes and hints of tobacco, chocolate and sweet vanilla. Luxurious and full bodied on the palate, with firm tannins and a persistent finish.
