Germany has a rich heritage of brewing and created the Rheinheitsgebot ‘Germany Beer Purity Law’. In 1516, this law stated that all beer should be created with just three ingredients - water, barley and hops. The Rheinheitsgebot is no longer part of German law, it was replaced by the Provisional German Beer Law in 1993 which allows components such as yeast, wheat malt and cane sugar to be added.
