Owned and run by the fourth generation of the Faustino family, Bodegas Faustino continues to set standards for Rioja adapting to trends and innovating for the future but always with an eye on past values.
As Chief Winemaker Rafael Martinez explains, ‘It is only by owning our vineyards that we can guarantee the highest quality of our wines. Wine is born in the vineyard. This principle guides all our activities and projects, which always begin with the selection and acquisition of the land. This allows us to choose the best areas to plant our vineyards’.
Designed by architects of the Rafael Moneo school, the cask ageing building stores 36,000 barrels of Rioja stacked six high – an impressive sight when viewed from the balcony with practically no right-angled corners! The winery is packed with state-of-the-art technology to support the high quality grapes that pass through the doors.
Respecting and caring for nature is something more than an obligation at Faustino. Ensuring the future of the 650 hectares of vineyards they own for the next generation is paramount. Because of this, they use eco-friendly farming practices and techniques in the field. Many are developed as a result of research and collaboration with universities, some of their vineyards are now certified as fully organic and the company is a signed up member of Wineries for Climate Protection.
