Sandrine Logette-Jardin was appointed to the post of Chef de Cave by Carol Duval-Leroy, President of the house of Duval-Leroy in January 2007. Immersed since childhood in the world of Champagne, she grew up in the Vallée de l’Ardre and studied under the guidance of Alain Maujean: an acknowledged expert on all aspects of Champagne, including such finer points as the movement of bubbles in flute glasses. Duval-Leroy is the largest 100% family-owned Champagne house, founded in 1859. Today, it owns and farms over 200 hectares of vineyards which provides the house a consistent source of high-quality grapes: most Champagne houses have only small vineyard holdings. ‘Over the last ten years, the quality of Duval-Leroy has soared and for a few years now it has been possible to claim that no other house can beat it for consistency of style - not even the greatest of the great’ Tom Stevenson, in Decanter Magazine 2009.
In 2013 Wine Spectator Magazine named Duval-Leroy in its list of ‘most exciting wines’ and awarded 90 points or more to a number of their champagnes: including 90 points for the Brut NV, 92 points for the Brut Rosé and 93 points for the Femme 2004.
Duval-Leroy sets itself rigorous standards; it was the first Champagne house to receive ISO 9002 certification in 1994, and has reduced the use of herbicides in their vineyards by more than 50% since 2000; they also produce an excellent fully organic wine from 100% Pinot Noir. The winery has about 250 square metres of solar panels installed on it which produce much of the electricity used in the building. All their wines are suitable for vegans.
