You probably don’t know Kev, but you definitely want to. He has a very particular set of skills, skills he’s acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a very talented young man, and skills that can help make you a nightmare to your competitors and stand out with style…

Read on to find out more ….Good Luck!

Kev Brilliant is one of our Graphic Designers who works in the Matthew Clark Design Studio. He really does live up to his name, because his illustration skills are just that, Brilliant! As part of our new blog feature ‘Get to know…’ where we introduce people from around Matthew Clark, allow me to introduce him…

Kev, have you always had a flair for art and design?

After leaving school I attended The City of Bristol College completing a GNVQ Advanced Course in Art and Design where I soon realised a passion for free-hand illustration.

So, quite early on then?

Yes, this ultimately led me to further my interest and go on to complete a Higher National Diploma in Wildlife Illustration at CCTA University in Wales. During this time I managed to learn new skills in illustration, many of them applicable to the work I now produce within my role here at Matthew Clark.

How long have you been at Matthew Clark?

I joined the Design Studio in November 2011 with a view to offering a value added service of free-hand illustrations to both new and old customers which would specifically allow for ‘the personal touch’ element.

I am pleased to say that this service has been widely received with a variety of illustrations being requested and nearly 200 drawn! The service has particularly proved useful when prospecting for new customers is concerned again offering that unique service where others are not.

How does the process work?

The process is a relatively simply one, with the customer or Sales Account Manager emailing me a preferred image perhaps a country hotel building, then after checking the level of detail required, I'll complete an illustration before using it as part of the finished drinks list design.

They certainly look great, do they have to be part of the menu?

Illustrations have also been requested as standalone prints, sometimes on canvas, as well as to be used as an embossed image on leather menu covers.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am currently working on a project with a large chain of hotels new to MC each one having a personalised illustration of their individual building, hopefully they’ll like what I’ve done as well as highlighting just one of the extra value added services MC has to offer.

Wow, that sounds really interesting, now it’s time to get to know you a little better with our quick fire round..

What’s your idea of a perfect night out?

It’s a tie…..either chilling in the afternoon watching a football in a pub with mates, before grabbing some food on the go then hitting the bars until it’s time for the obligatory kebab! Or Cocktails and beers in a nice bar with my wife before getting stuck into a decent Chinese meal and some Tsing Taos!

What’s your go to, when you go to the bar?

Lager and will always try something new, but really like an Estrella.

If you could have any job in the world, what would you do?

Already have the best job, being a dad to my gorgeous boys! If I had to choose, then head of the FA in order to try and sort English football out once and for all!

What are you most proud of?

My boys (Seth 10 and Frankie 7). Owning my fully original Escort RS Turbo comes a close second!

Football or rugby? Football (obviously). Pencil or computer? Pencil (have to say that). City or beach? Beach. Tablet or paper? Tablet. Cats or dogs? Neither…Fish!

Brilliant…thanks Kev!
