Pumpkin has long been a favourite Autumnal food and drink flavour stateside, and over the past few years, there has been a deluge of pumpkin flavoured drinks gaining popularity on our shores too. Most notable of all is the infamous pumpkin spice latte, the introduction of which, has become an event in its own right each year as it's added to hot drink menus.

With cocktails incredibly popular amongst the late night crowd, putting a seasonal twist on your cocktail menu could be winning formula. The colder days call for pumpkin indulgence and its use as an ingredient adds depth and complexity to drinks. Pumpkin Pie Martini Cocktail

This cocktail is a boozy take on classic American pumpkin pie. Indulgent and rich with the sprinkling of cinnamon adding some spice to that pumpkin flavour. This cocktail would work on menus from Autumn all the way through until Christmas.

Method

Pour over all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a dusting of cinnamon.

Smokey Pear and Pumpkin Sour Cocktail

Sours are without a doubt my favourite type of cocktail, the total is always better than the sum of the parts. Created by Bombay Sapphire, this cocktail excellently combines pear and pumpkin. Ideal for gin lovers as the weather turns them away from an ice-cold G&T.

Method

Add all ingredients into your cocktail shaker and dry shake. Add ice and shake for 5-10 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with pumpkin seeds.

Bourbon Pumpkin Smash Cocktail

Rim a glass with a sprinkling of cinnamon and brown sugar. Add the bourbon, pumpkin purée, lemon juice and simple syrup to an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake and strain over ice and top with soda water. Garnish with a stick of cinnamon.

Method

Add a sugar cube to the bottom of an old-fashioned glass. Add two dashes of Angostura bitters, pumpkin syrup and a dash of water to the cube and muddle to dissolve. Add ice to the glass and pour over the whisky and liqueur. Stir for 5-10 seconds and garnish with orange peel.
