Willi Opitz Goldamsel Welschriesling Beerenauslese, Burgenland

Willi Opitz Goldamsel Welschriesling Beerenauslese, Burgenland

A composition of Welschriesling and Scheurebe (known as Sämling 88 in Austria) grown in vineyards close to the many lakes in the region. The macroclimate around the Neusiedlersee and these other small steppe lakes creates favourable conditions for the development of Botrytis cinerea, often referred to as Noble Rot. Hand-harvesting of very ripe, individual berries is carried out over a number of vineyard visits; the sugar levels need to be 250 g/l. The varieties are vinified separately being pressed gently in a small basket press and the wine is matured in oak barriques for a year. The wine itself has beautiful balance with notes of peach, orange zest and apricot.
