Willi Opitz Goldackerl Welschriesling-Scheurebe Trockenbeerenauslese, Burgenland

Willi Opitz Goldackerl Welschriesling-Scheurebe Trockenbeerenauslese, Burgenland

The macroclimate around the Neusiedlersee and these other small steppe lakes creates favourable conditions for the development of Botrytis cinerea, often referred to as Noble Rot. This wine is a blend of Welschriesling and Scheurebe grapes that are hand-picked later than those for the Beerenauslese, usually the middle of November, when the bunches are at least 95% affected by Botrytis and sugar levels exceed 300 g/l. The grape varieties are vinified separately, the juice gently liberated by use of a basket press and the wine is matured in oak barriques for a year. Rich and powerfully sweet with honey, peach and exotic fruit and spice notes.
