About the wine maker
‘If you’re standing still, you’re going backwards’ is a maxim well understood at J. Moreau et Fils. Already with an excellent international reputation for producing great wines, the Chablis house established in 1814 continues to develop its capabilities. Recently it has created a new position of Viniculturist to more closely link the activities in the vineyards and winery.
Lucie Depuydt, the Viniculturist, geared her studies towards wine from an early age; she has a diploma in Biological Engineering and succeeded in obtaining her National Diploma of Oenology in Dijon. She completed her university studies in Burgundy by doing a Land and Environment Masters degree with a major in Vineyards and Terroir which included mapping the different soils of the entire region of Chablis.
The team is currently focusing specifically on affirming the house style, working both upstream with the growers on the quality of the grapes arriving at the winery, as well as within the winery improving on the flexibility and performance of the winemaking equipment.
In addition to providing support to their partner growers, Lucie also monitors the vinification and ageing of Moreau’s Chablis alongside Professor Denis Dubourdieu and Valérie Lavigne who have been the house’s winemaking consultants since 2006.
