Fritz's Riesling Rheinhessen, Fritz Hasselbach

Fritz's Riesling Rheinhessen, Fritz Hasselbach

Good Rheinhessen Rieslings, such as this fine example from the Gunderloch estate based in Nackenheim, show a touch more softness than perhaps Mosel or Rheingau wines. This makes them very user-friendly and also are very flexible with food. Off-dry, with a balancing acidity, notes of melon and lime and a touch of spritz. Fritz Hasselbach, the co-owner, is a highly accredited winemaker: in 2002, the Wine Spectator magazine celebrated him as the only winemaker ever to have received a perfect 100 points score for not only one, but three of his wines, the 1992, 1996 and 2001 Riesling Nackenheimer Rothenberg Trockenbeerenauslese.
