Willi Opitz Blaufränkisch, Burgenland

Willi Opitz Blaufränkisch, Burgenland

The Blaufränkisch grape variety performs well on the clay and sandy soils of Burgenland, its thick skin allowing for a long ripening period particularly in rainy autumns. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and the juice is pumped-over three times a day for the first week to extract flavour and colour from the skins. A malolactic fermentation follows and the wine is then aged in used barrels for about a year. Shows black cherry and other ripe dark fruits with a note of black pepper spice.
