Morellino di Scansano, villa Poggio Salvi

Morellino di Scansano, villa Poggio Salvi

Hand-picked Sangiovese grapes from vineyards planted, at around 300 metres above sea level, in the Scansano region are employed to make this Tuscan red. Here, just 12 miles from the Mediterranean coast, the variety is known as Morellino. Fermentation is traditional and warm, lasting for just over ten days, the caps being regularly punched down. Unoaked, the wine is aged for about four months in bottle prior to release. Ruby-red, the nose shows notes of cherry and plum; the palate is soft with velvety tannins.
