Ferreirinha Vinha Grande Tinto, Douro

Ferreirinha Vinha Grande Tinto, Douro

A blend of grapes more famously associated with the production of Port: 35% Touriga Franca, 30% Tinta Roriz, 30% Touriga Nacional, 5% Tinta Barroca; grown in vineyards in the upper reaches of the Douro and further downstream close to the village of Pinhão where the majority of the famous Quintas are located. After hand-harvesting, de-stemming and crushing, the must is fermented in stainless steel with pumping-over and a long maceration. The wine is aged in Vila Nova de Gaia for up to 18 months in French oak barrels, prior to blending and a very light filtration prior to bottling. The aroma is intense, predominantly redcurrant and plum, along with spice, resin and cedar, all very well integrated with subtle oak. It is a well-balanced wine with firm, well-textured tannins and bright, attractive acidity. Its finish is very long and harmonious.
