Ferreirinha Esteva, Douro

Ferreirinha Esteva, Douro

This soft, approachable wine is a blend of 35% Tinta Roriz, 30% Tinta Barroca, 20% Touriga Franca, 15% Touriga Nacional. These are grapes all famed for use in the production of Port; although Tinta Roriz is probably best known by its Spanish name, Tempranillo. Altitude plays a major part in producing high quality red grapes in hotter climates, these grapes come from a number of vineyards which are high, and therefore cool, enough to maintain acidity levels at optimum ripeness. Hand-picked bunches were softly de-stemmed and crushed, the wine was made in stainless steel and aged over winter at cool temperatures. Ruby-red, the wine shows red fruits such as strawberry and cherry alongside spicy and floral notes; it finishes fresh and smooth.
